Melancholy Musicbox

Music boxes make me cry now, no matter what song it plays. They all remind me of my grandparents, especially my grandpa, because I could always bring it to them, and they would both sing whatever song it played together for me. They knew them all. His singing always gave me butterflies, and I would never know how to react. I wouldn't sing along with him because his singing made me all flushed and bashful.

Music box crying is a good kind of crying. Not as intensely purifying as God crying, but it's not like devastation, it's more like melancholy. More like, as much as this hurts now; I wouldn't want it another way.

I have a very old German music box that was my mother's; I have no idea what the song is that it plays.

My mother has dementia, and fortunately she's living with my brother and his wife. I haven't seen them in over two years, but I talk to my mom a few times a week on the phone.
